Common Game Reskinning Missed Opportunities

Like all other HTML5 game development projects, game reskins also require a fundamental purpose. We reskin games to fit a target audience or a marketing campaign. Unfortunately in most cases, game reskins often miss a lot of opportunities in marketing brands and businesses.

Here is a list of recurring missed potentials and opportunities in reskinning games.

  1. Not implementing branded characters on game reskins
Additional development cost causes a brand not to include their own identities or personas on game reskins. However, there’s a lot more opportunity and consumer engagement to be won with games that are closely identified to a brand. Any positive experience from the branded game is often associated with the brand.
  2. Goals are not realistic or attainable
Your end goal for a game reskin should be measurable and attainable in order to succeed. A lack of clearer goals often results in overbudget and underperformance.
  3. Native app platform on the first game release
Releasing on Google Play/App Store can be difficult right now due to each platform’s legal and operational policies. Sticking to HTML5 web is often the best solution because HTML5 games run directly on most marketing channels.
  4. Not collecting leads
HTML5 games are very good lead generation platforms. You could build contests, raffles, and many more to attract quality leads for your brand. The little effort done on lead gen can take a game to a whole new level of favorable outcomes.
